Local is 'Lekker'

Cookbook: Locally ServedFebruary 2008 - Whether you are cooking the perfect boiled egg or if you simply must have the perfect béchamel sauce to enjoy with your cannelloni au gratin, Clover's latest cook book, Locally Served could just be the book you’ve been looking for.

Locally Served is a culinary delight that showcases the diverse cultures and tastes one can only find in South African cooking. Dishes range from old-fashioned curried mince and vetkoek to sophisticated aubergine and feta salads. Locally Served also pays tribute to Clover’s Corporate Social Investment (CSI) project, Clover Mama Afrika. The project currently has 23 Mamas who run successful care centres for homeless people throughout South Africa. Clover empowers these Mamas with equipment, infrastructure and many self-sustainable skills, such as cooking and baking.

The book is split in four distinct chapters, covering breakfast treats, traditional chow, delectables and a useful guide on: interesting sauces, edible flowers, fillings and icing for cakes and various cooking methods for meat.

Food fundi’s, cooks and bakers will enjoy the easy to read and handy ring bound format of Locally Served. The pages are visually appealing and successfully combine graphics with colour photos of the dishes and the Mamas. The easy to follow index deserves a mention and the colour-coded sections make for easy reading and quick referencing. The book combines ingredients, flavours, cultures and lifestyles in an inimitably South African way – producing a culinary experience like no other. Each recipe has been tested and only uses quality ingredients that can be found in any woman’s kitchen – making it the ideal book for any cook book collector.

This is the ninth cook book from the Clover stable under the guidance of Prof Elain Vlok, Manager Corporate Services at Clover and patron of the Clover Mama Afrika project.
Locally Served sells for R100.
