 After the amazing success of 2008’s Tropika Island of Treasure in Mauritius, Tropika Island of Treasure 2 in Zanzibar had a lot to live up to. No problem when you have 10 of SA’s hottest celebrities: Hendrik Cronje, Shashi Naidoo, Bianca Le Grange, Loyiso Bala, Trevor Noah, Kelly Khumalo, Sizwe Dhlomo, Tasha Baxter, Speedy and Lira along with their consumer winner partners from around the country, teamed up for 7 days competing in the eazy-ist of challenges.
From the fun challenges such as a puzzle competition for an upgraded room with a jacuzzi to a beach bicycle race and dress and jump like a massai warrior, a good time was had by all. The fact that all of South Africa got to partake in this years Tropika Island Of Treasure by tuning in to e.tv every Sunday at 6:30pm for 8 weeks, increased the excitement exponentially.
So much so that we had more viewers watching Tropika Island Of Treasure than the e.tv news! Tropika made sure to thank the island that hosted us so graciously by donating R100 000.00 to the SMOOCH charity, a charity for single mothers and orphaned children in Zanzibar. The winners of the charity challenge were Muneer Ameer and Kelly Khumalo. They each walked away with R10 000.00.
Cuan Bergman, a very shy 23 year old from Ennerdale in Gauteng and Shashi Naidoo, a model and TV presenter, were determined from the start to emerge the champions in the Tropika Island of Treasure competition. It wasn’t plain sailing for this team as they had some stiff competition from Hendrik Cronje, the 7de laan actor who comes from Bloemfontein and is from a family of Springbok athletes, a strong competitor for the million and his partner Rosa Blauuw, a consumer winner from PE. In the end, the 5:00 am yoga and early nights in bed as well as the teamwork and dedication to the competition paid off, Cuan and Shashi were crowned the 2009 winners of Tropika Island of Treasure Zanzibar.
In a beachfront ceremony that was watched by nearly 1, 3 million viewers back home. Hendrik didn’t put up a fight for nothing, in a pact made with Shashi, he walked away with R50, 000.00. Cuan, was in disbelief not only at his good fortune in being chosen as a consumer winner to jet off to Zanzibar to compete in the ultimate fan experience but also that he won the competition and said: “A big thank you to Clover/ Tropika for my winning the prize money.
This is truly a life changing experience which I appreciate very much!” Shashi spent her winnings on her wedding, a pair of Christian Louboutin shoes and paid off her bond.
