This twist on a classic South African pot bread is the perfect gourmet side dish at a braai.
This easy-to-make bread is dense and packed with nutrients. Delicious served warm with melting Clover Butro.
Episode 04: Snotkop – Chicken Curry
A delicious loaf filled with Mediterranean flavours. As seen on Expresso Morning Show or Afternoon Express, SABC3.
Preheat oven to 180°C.
Beat sugar and butter together until creamy.
Dissolve bicarbonate of soda in vinegar and add syrup and condensed milk.
Mix dry ingredients and add to butter mixture.
Add condensed milk mixture and mix well.
Shape into small balls and place on a greased baking tray.
Flatten slightly.
Bake for 20 minutes or until golden brown.
Preheat oven to 180°C.
Sift the flour, maize meal, baking powder and salt together.
Add the cheese and mix through.
Mix the maas and chakalaka together and add to the dry ingredients.
Gently mix through.
Mixture can still be lumpy.
Spoon into a greased 28 cm loaf tin and bake for 40 – 50 minutes or until golden in colour and a skewer comes out clean when inserted.
Allow bread to rest for 5 minutes in tin before turning out on a wire rack.
Serve warm with Butro
